NBA Draft day 2018

Good morning members of the Big Blue Nation.  As we all know, yesterday was a huge day for Kentucky as they landed a commitment from Stanford grad-transfer Reid Travis.  Today, marks another big day in the world of sports for Kentucky because tonight is the NBA Draft,  five Kentucky Wildcats will find out where they will start their pro basketball careers.

Here is where the “experts” think the Wildcats will fall:

CBS Sports:

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: #11 to Hornets

Kevin Knox: #12 to Clippers

The Hornets have been reportedly thinking about trading Kemba Walker.  Shai in Charlotte with Malik Monk and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist would be a good place for him to be.  Kevin Knox to the Clippers would be a good fit for him as the Clippers are in a small rebuild after losing Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, which would result in a lot of playing time for Knox.

SBNATION:

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: #11 to Hornets

Kevin Knox: #14 to Nuggets

This is one of the few mock drafts I have seen that doesn’t have these two going back to back.  If this became true, Knox would get to play with two former Cats in Jamal Murray and Trey Lyles.

NBADraft.net:

Kevin Knox: #9 to Knicks

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: #12 to Clippers

Jarred Vanderbilt: #46 to Rockets

Hamidou Diallo: #48 to Timberwolves

One of the few complete mock drafts I have come across.  Knox in New York and Shai in LA would be awesome cities for two Kentucky rookies.  Vanderbilt and Diallo are where they have been predicted to land, which is mid to late first round.  I would be surprised if fewer than four Kentucky Wildcats are drafted tonight.

ESPN:

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: #8 to Cavaliers

Kevin Knox: #14 to Nuggets

If LeBron somehow stayed in Cleveland and Shai was drafted by them tonight…. let’s just say I would be alright if I were a rookie and got to play with LeBron.

Hoops Hype:

Kevin Knox: #10 to 76ers

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: #12 to Clippers

Kevin Knox would get to play with Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid, enough said.

What should you take away from this?

  • It would be a bit of a shocker if either Alexander or Knox or both were drafted outside of the lottery (top 14)
  • Very unlikely five Wildcats will be drafted tonight
  • Very unlikely only two Wildcats will be drafted tonight
  • Once Knox and Alexander are off the board, pay close attention to the mid 40’s through late 50’s as this is where Vanderbilt and Diallo are likely to end up

The draft starts at 7:00 PM ET on ESPN

Hope you all enjoy.  Go Cats.
